The Very First Things to Do

Here are the very first things to put on your wedding planning checklist before we dive into all of the suppliers.

Budget

The first thing to think about and confirm is your budget. It's easy to get caught up in the allure of fancy ballrooms and picturesque gardens, but remember, you don't want to start your married life in debt – so know exactly what your budget is.

Vision

Next, think about your vision for the wedding. Are you dreaming of a rustic barn wedding or a chic city affair? Do you want an outdoor ceremony or an indoor reception? Think about the type of atmosphere you want to create and find a venue and suppliers that fit.

Research

Now, it's time to start researching. Check out wedding websites, ask for recommendations from friends, and maybe even attend a few wedding fairs. Make a shortlist of potential venues and suppliers and schedule some viewings.

And don't forget to ask plenty of questions – like whether your venue allows outside catering or if they have a strict curfew (you don't want the party to end too early).

Guests

Don’t forget the most important people – your guests!

Start planning your guestlist, but beware, it can get tricky. Uncle Bob's new girlfriend or your third cousin twice removed? These are the decisions you want to consider!

Once you have a rough idea of who's on the guest list, it's time to confirm it. Double-check with your parents, your partner's parents, and anyone else who might have a say. You don't want any surprises when it comes to the seating plan.

Pop the Question

Speaking of your nearest and dearest, now's the time to pop the question to your bridal party.

Bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls, page boys – they all deserve a special invitation to be part of your big day.

Wedding Insurance

Last but not least, consider wedding insurance. Yes, it's a thing. And yes, it's worth it.

Because let's face it, life is unpredictable, and you don't want to be caught in a hurricane without a plan.

Setting the Stage: The Perfect Venue

Let's set the stage for a wedding to remember!

Think about the type of venue that suits your personality. Are you a laid-back couple who loves the beach? Or maybe you're more of a traditionalist who envisions an elegant ballroom. Whatever your style, there's a venue out there that's just right for you.

When visiting potential venues, keep an eye out for the little details. Is there enough parking for all your guests? Is there a backup plan in case of bad weather? These things may not seem important now, but trust me, they can make a big difference on the day.

And don't forget about the aesthetics! Imagine walking down the aisle surrounded by beautiful architecture or breathtaking views. Make sure the venue matches your vision and sets the stage for a truly magical celebration.

Choosing Entertainment for Your Big Day

Next on your wedding planning checklist is choosing your entertainment.

When it comes to choosing the perfect entertainment for your wedding day, the options are endless. From live bands and DJs to solo artists and string quartets, the choice is yours.

Consider the atmosphere you want to create and the style of music that best reflects your personalities as a couple. Do you envision a lively dance floor or a more intimate and romantic vibe?

Don't forget to also consider any specific cultural or religious traditions that may require special performances or music. Take the time to listen to different performers or bands, read reviews, and ask for recommendations.

By selecting the right entertainment, you'll be setting the stage for an unforgettable celebration that your guests will talk about for years to come.

Flowers and Styling: Setting the Scene

Creating a beautiful atmosphere for your wedding is all about the flowers and styling – so make sure you add this to your wedding planning checklist!

The right floral arrangements and decor can transform any space into a beautiful setting. Start by considering your wedding theme and colour scheme. Are you going for a rustic, bohemian vibe or a classic, elegant look?

Once you have a vision in mind, consult with a professional florist to bring it to life. They can guide you in choosing the ideal blooms and greenery that suit your style and budget. From centrepieces and bouquets to ceremony backdrops and table settings, every detail counts.

Remember to also think about lighting, linens, and other styling elements to complete the look. With the right flowers and styling, you'll create a scene that will leave a lasting impression on your guests.

Food and Drink: Pleasing the Palate

One thing you do not want to miss on your wedding planning checklist is the food and drink – this will keep everyone happy all day long!

Planning the menu for your wedding day is an opportunity to delight your guests and create a memorable culinary experience. From hors d'oeuvres to the main course and desserts, every dish should be carefully chosen to please the palate.

Consider your guests' dietary restrictions and preferences, and work with your caterer or venue to create a menu that caters to all. Whether you opt for a formal sit-down dinner or a buffet-style feast, ensure that the food is delicious, beautifully presented, and reflects your personal taste.

Don't forget to also pair the food with a selection of refreshing drinks and signature cocktails. By focusing on the food and drink, you'll provide a delightful culinary journey for your guests and leave a lasting impression on their taste buds!

Finding the Right Attire for Your Wedding Day

Finding the perfect attire for your wedding day is an exciting and important task.

It's the opportunity to showcase your personal style and make a statement as you walk down the aisle. Start by considering the overall theme and vibe of your wedding. Are you going for a classic, traditional look or something more modern and unique?

Once you have an idea in mind, begin the search for your dream dress or suit. Visit bridal boutiques or suit shops, try on different styles, and take the time to find the right fit.

Don't forget to also consider accessories such as shoes, jewellery, and veils or headpieces.

Remember, the right attire will not only make you look incredible but also help you feel confident and beautiful on your special day. So add this to your wedding planning checklist to ensure you find an outfit that makes you feel amazing!

Invitations and Stationery: Creating the First Impression

Your wedding invitations and stationery are the first glimpse your guests will get of your wedding day, so you want to make a lasting impression.

Whether you choose elegant, minimalist designs or bold and vibrant ones, your invitations should reflect your style and set the tone for your wedding. From save-the-dates and RSVP cards to wedding programmes and menus, every piece of stationery should be cohesive and visually stunning.

Consider working with a professional stationery designer or explore online options to find designs that align with your vision. By investing in high-quality invitations and stationery, you'll ensure that your guests are excited to celebrate with you from the moment they receive their beautifully crafted invitation in the post.

The Importance of a Wedding Rehearsal

A wedding rehearsal may seem like just another item on your wedding planning checklist, but it's actually a crucial step in ensuring that your big day runs smoothly.

It's an opportunity for you and your wedding party to practise the ceremony, familiarise yourselves with the venue, and iron out any kinks before the main event. By walking through the process beforehand, you'll feel more confident and relaxed on your wedding day.

Plus, it gives everyone involved a chance to understand their roles and responsibilities, ensuring that everything goes according to plan. So take the time to schedule a rehearsal, gather your loved ones, and prepare for a flawless celebration.

Trust me, the peace of mind it brings is absolutely worth it!
